Community Awareness of Drugs will be launching our Family Focus programme in St Louise National School, Ballyfermont on Wednesday 10th October 2019
What is the Family Focus Programme?
Problems with alcohol and other drugs affect people of all ages and all walks of life. Many parents find it difficult to discuss drugs and drug related issues with their children. They may feel they know too little to have any real impact on their opinions. Yet studies clearly show that parents have a positive impact on the life-style choices and drug taking behaviour of their children. Consisting of six sessions, this interactive programme promotes the role of the parent in educating their young people about risk associated with substance use, in an effort to reduce the demand for drugs. Delivered within a health promoting framework, our programme provides participants with an opportunity to:
- Update information on drugs and their effects
- Explore attitudes and decisions about substance misuse
- Develop a family focused drug prevention strategy
This programme is normally hosted in partnership with local community groups or programmes.
If you are interested in hosting a programme or just want to know more about what’s involved contact the CAD office.
All classes will be held weekly on Tuesday mornings 9:30am.
