At a special meeting of the Company on 06 August 2020, the Board of Directors of Community Awareness of Drugs (CAD) decided to wind-up the charity.
This decision was made by the trustees of CAD in the best interests of the charity, and followed a lengthy period of discussion at Board meetings regarding uncertainty about the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern, indications from substantial State funders of an unwillingness to maintain funding levels, and a strategic review of the charity’s service delivery in light of COVID-19 restrictions on physical gatherings and other supports available to the communities CAD serves. The decision was not taken lightly.
The Board extended its heartfelt thanks for the many years of dedicated service I have given to CAD. In addition, they acknowledged the countless parents and community workers that CAD has worked with since its establishment in 1983 along with former staff members and colleagues who made it all possible.
Friday October 30th 2020 is the day the service ‘closes its doors’. I wish you all good health and well-being and sincerely hope this is au revoir and not goodbye.
